Eyelash Extensions....worth the hype?!?!?

This is a question that I get daily, and thats not an exaggeration. Once people know I am a Makeup Artist about 75% of the time the next question I get is....do you do eyelash extensions? do you like eyelash extensions? what do you think about eyelash extensions?

After I realized that this was a question I was going to get every day I decided that it was finally time for me to give them a try! I found a girl here in Atlanta that had a really good introductory rate for a full set and had glowing recommendations from people that I worked with so I thought I would give it a try.

So here goes....the good, the bad, the amazing, and the ugly of eyelash extensions!

First, they look amazing! I left the salon and almost had wreck on the way home because I could not stop looking at myself in the rear view mirror. I looked like I had on eyeliner and mascara and I didn't have on a single stitch of makeup. They were beautiful. I was super careful with them for the first few days like I was told. No getting them wet or rubbing them and combing them out with a spoolie. Even after the first 2 days I was extremely careful with them in the shower trying to not get them wet the best I could but I was going to wash my face because I don't care how good your lashes look if you've got a face full of zits all bets are off.

The initial set lasted about 1 week really beautiful and then I noticed they started falling out, like they are supposed to. It was just a few lashes here and there for the first week but then you could actually start seeing them get thin towards the second week.

This was one week in and without a stitch of makeup on! Sorry its not a better pic but I don't take many of myself so its the best Ive got. You can see the long lashes I have going on....this is also a really good reason to post a pic of that sweet baby!

I made my appointment for 2 weeks to have them refilled so I went back and got my lashes all prettied up again. I don't know if I was less careful with the new set or if refills don't last as long but they started falling out much quicker than the original set. And towards the end of the first set before I was getting my second set put on I actually wore makeup for my Halloween costume and after wearing the "forbidden" makeup I did notice they did a little clumping which I was warned about but Ursula was a pretty important undertaking.

This is what the individual lashes looked like after they started coming off. I snagged a few so I could get a pic.

Second, I loved the convenience of not having to put on mascara when I went out in the morning to run errands. I was able to do my daily chores without looking like hot garbage but on days that I wanted to bump up the glam it seemed a little bit harder. I wasn't able to wear gel liner (which based on a previous post) you know I love. It just seemed like wearing regular makeup was off limits because I had these eyelashes. It really was a love/hate thing.

Finally, the feeling. They were not heavier or lighter than regular mascara. It really just felt like I had on mascara all the time. When I washed my face they were so long that it seemed a little bit strange because that hard eyelash feeling never went away but it was not enough of a difference to really put that in the bad or good column.

My final review goes like this. I have nothing really bad to say about them. They looked great and lasted almost 2 full weeks for the first pair and Im on week 2 of the refill and they are still very much there just falling out a touch faster. I would say if you are not a fan of makeup and just put on a bit of mascara and go in the mornings this could be the perfect thing for you! If you are like me and somedays you wear little makeup and others you really pile it on then you might have the same impression I have, sometimes they are great and others, eh! And if you put on a full face of makeup every day and don't want to have to sacrifice your favorite products they might not be the thing for you.

I would love to know your opinions if you have had them or if you have any questions that I haven't covered please feel free to leave them in the comments!
